About Us

About Us

The STEM Garden Initiative was founded in 2023 as a “Be the Change project”  by Mary Ameh, a then 2022 Fellow at Teach For Nigeria with a mission to address the systemic bias of education inequality faced by children in underserved communities, exacerbated by hunger. Driven by her passion to make a positive impact among vulnerable groups, Mary established the STEM Garden Initiative, providing a platform for young and passionate individuals to make an impact. And collectively, they have already made a significant difference in the lives of over 3,500 children in underserved communities.

The SMART STEM-Garden Educational Foundation (STEM GARDEN INITIATIVE) is a project that helps children, women and other members of the communities grow their own food and become self-sufficient. We work with schools and communities to set up gardens, provide training on how to maintain them, and teach people about entrepreneurship and business skills.

What we do (Our Project)

Our project helps children, women and youth in several ways.

  • It provides access to healthy and nutritious food, which is often scarce in low-income communities.
  • It helps to create jobs and income opportunities for community members, particularly women and youth.
  • It helps to promote education and skills development to children and youth particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

We believe that our project is essential for building stronger and more resilient communities. By providing people with the skills and resources they need to grow their own food and start their own businesses, we are helping to create a more sustainable and equitable food system
